Palace Bill passed again with modifications

The State legislature on Friday passed the Bangalore Palace (Utilisation and Regulation of Land) (Amendment) Bill, 2025, bringing in modification to an earlier Bill cleared by both Houses. While the Legislative Assembly had cleared the Bill on March 6, the Legislative Council had cleared it on March 10.

The Bill meant to replace an Ordinance earlier promulgated gives more power to the State government in deciding on the extent of land to be taken from the Bangalore Palace for infrastructure development and issues related to compensation. It comes in the wake of the Supreme Court asking the government to compensate the erstwhile Mysuru royal family with TDR worth ₹3,400 crore for 15 acres and 17.50 guntas of land in the Bangalore Palace ground.

Government sources said that the amendment Bill was moved on Friday following developments in the Supreme Court on Thursday. Sources said that three changes were suggested by the advocates based on the Supreme Court observation, and hence, the amendment was moved. Both Houses of the legislature cleared the Bill again.
