A new peak inside the Google Messages app revealed that the company is working to add remote deletions and editing to the default Android texting app.
Android Authority performed a teardown of the Messages app, which involves looking at the app’s code to make predictions about future features. However, it’s important to note that predictions might not always be accurate.
There is no mention of when the features might come out in the Android Authority article, but the team was able to find out that when you go to delete something, it will ask you if you want to simply delete it for yourself, or for everyone in the chat.
The publication also warns that since the message delete feature is reliant on RCS upgrades, it might not work on all phones. Ideally as more and more people update their software over the years, this will become less of an issue.
Like on iOS and other chat apps, there’s also a time limit of 15 minutes for mass deleting messages for everyone. If you wait longer than that, you’ll only be able to delete the messages from your phone.
The feature does seem close to release, so I’d expect to see it sometime in the next few months.
