Chennai Mayor R. Priya presented the Budget of Greater Chennai Corporation for the year 2025-26 on March 19, 2025.
According to the Budget documents, the civic body accounts for total receipts of ₹8,267.17 crore and total expenditure of ₹8,404.7 crore. Of the total capital expenditure of ₹3,191 crore, ₹1,032 crore is allocated for storm water drainage, ₹628 crore for bus route roads, ₹413 crore for buildings, ₹352 crore for solid waste management, ₹281 crore for zones, ₹179 crore for special projects, ₹164 crore for bridges and ₹142 crore for others.
Corporation Budget Highlights:
Introduction of QR code system for instant payment of property tax, fees for name changes, trade licence fees and other charges
Introduction of smart parking facility mobile application through public-private partnership
Increase of Councillor’s Ward Development Fund from ₹50 lakh to ₹60 lakh
Increase of Mayor’s Special Development Fund from ₹3 crore to ₹4 crore

Setting up of Chennai’s third burial ground for deceased pets in Moolakothalam
Allocation of ₹3 crore for anti-rabies vaccination and parasitic medication of 1.8 lakh stray dogs
Establishment of special emergency care centre for injured pet animals at Kannammapettai
Creation of geriatric care units at three urban primary health centres
Allocation of ₹4.46 crore to facilitate citizen services, grievance redressal and automated FAQs through WhatsApp-based communication
Establishment of food courts at two locations in Chennai
Creation of 200 new bus shelters
Upgradation of four bus terminii at Manali, IOCL, Tollgate and Saligramam
Upgradation of 10 parks with aids for special children
Gradual replacement of diesel and petrol vehicles with CNG and electric vehicles
