Seven persons were arrested by Arani Town police on Tuesday for killing a private finance firm staff near the town over previous enmity a few days ago.
Police said the arrested persons were identified as K. Dhanapal, 25, V. Damodaran, 24, B. Kamal, 34, R. Santhosh Kumar, 23, J. Dinesh Kumar, 26, G. Prasanth, 31, and S. Ashok Kumar, 34.
Initial inquiry revealed that victim A. Vignesh, 25, a post-graduate, was working in a private finance firm in the town for the past few years. He was married and has a daughter. Police said that along with a few friends, Vignesh was allegedly involved in the murder of B. Manikandan, a history-sheeter, last year (2024). Deceased Manikandan was angry with Vignesh as he and his friends used to alert police on Manikandan’s illegal activities in the town.
Vignesh was released on bail a few months ago and rejoined the private firm. On Sunday, along with his friends, Vignesh went to meet the suspects at Pudur village for compromise.
Upset over their friend Manikandan’s death, police said the gang chased Vignesh and killed him. Based on the alert, police inspected the spot and registered a case. Arrested persons were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is underway.
