Bell Canada copied Telus’ $49/100GB plan and switched up its other plan offerings while hiding details about caps on streaming quality.
Bell rolled out a wider refresh of the plan page on its website. Aside from the fresh new look (which makes plan details slightly easier to read), the refresh brings new plans.
First up, Bell has a $49/100GB 5G+ plan with unlimited Canada-wide talk and international texting. The plan closely matches a similar offer from Telus. Bell’s plan includes unlimited data, which means that after the 100GB allotment, customers can keep using data at a throttled speed of up to 512Kbps with no overage fees.
Notably, Bell’s plans differ from other Canadian providers by not capping data speeds. Bell’s website notes that speed and performance “depend on various factors including: your rate plan, topography, environmental conditions, the current serving radio conditions at your location and whether the device is actively downloading or uploading data.”
However, Bell does cap the quality of video streamed over its mobile network, though the company no longer discloses this on the redesigned plan page.
Update March 14, 2025 at 9:06 p.m. EST: Bell walked back the removal of video streaming quality information and put the details back on its website.
The rest of the original story continues below.
Bell confirmed in an email to MobileSyrup that it removed this information from the plan page but still caps streaming quality.Prior to the change to Bell’s website, it listed some plans as limited to SD streaming (480p) or HD streaming (1080p). Customers could purchase a $5/mo add-on to get HD streaming.
Bell’s other two plans also got upgrades. The company’s $60/mo plan got bumped from 100GB to 150GB and also received included U.S. roaming. Bell’s 200GB Canada/U.S./Mexico plan was discounted from $90 to $75/mo.
All of Bell’s plan prices include a discount for using automatic payments.
