The Magadi Road police on Saturday arrested a 33-year-old waste-paper mart owner for allegedly trying to mow down police personnel who were conducting a random vehicle check for drunk driving on the service road of West of Chord Road last Monday.
The accused Mahadevaswamy Ramachari was on the run after injuring head constable Dharanappa, constable Karthik, and damaging their bike. The duo along with their senior Manjunath N.V. were on special duty to check vehicles.
When they tried to stop the vehicle driven by Mahadevaswamy, the accused drove past the barricades and stopped a few metres away abruptly. The barricades and the bike were damaged in the melee. Dharanappa and Karthik went on a bike to question him, following which he allegedly tried to mow them down and sped away.
Based on a complaint by Manjunath, the Magadi Road police had registered a case against Mahadevaswamy charging him with attempt to murder, voluntarily causing hurt, assault or use of criminal force against public servant.
The police analysed the footage from various CCTV cameras in and around the area to identify the registration number of the car and tracked down the accused.
