Students must believe in themselves and set goals in order to achieve success, especially in the competitive Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations, said P. Sridharan, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, TDS Range, Madurai and Tiruchi region, in Karur on Saturday.
Addressing students of M. Kumarasamy College of Engineering (MKCE) in Thalavapalayam, Karur, at an UPSC Aspirants Meet organised by Shankar IAS Academy and The Hindu Group, Mr. Sridharan said it was important for young people to remain self-motivated and disciplined in their study plan.
He credited his family for helping him pursue civil services as a career choice, and keeping him motivated whenever he felt low.
“Education is the greatest tool for transformation as we can see from the biographies of our nation’s great leaders. Learning is a continuous process and while it is essential to relax and enjoy the lighter side of life, it is important to maintain a balance with our life’s aims. Core values can be learnt only through support from family and educational institutions,” he said.
Mr. Sridharan urged students to read The Hindu daily as it was both a valuable source of information for UPSC aspirants and a means to develop one’s language skills. Innovative and analytical thinking were essential for UPSC aspirants, as it would help them prepare for the exams.
C. Prabhakar, branch manager, Shankar IAS Academy, gave a brief outline about the civil services examinations and clarified doubts raised by students.
MKCE principal B.S. Murugan spoke.
