On day 1 of SSLC exam, 978 remain absent in three districts -

The SSLC Board examinations for which the Education Department had made elaborate arrangements saw a smooth start in the districts of Dharwad, Haveri and Gadag on Friday.

There were no cases of examination malpractices on the first day. As many as 978 students remained absent for the first language paper in the three districts.

In Dharwad, out of the total 28,567 candidates (both regular and private) who had registered for the examination, 28,153 students appeared for the first language paper in 106 centres on Friday, with 414 students remaining absent. In fact, a total of 30,749 candidates had secured admission for SSLC during 2024-25 including 28,666 regular and 2,083 private students. However, of them, 28,567 registered for the examination, according to authorities.

As the students reached the examination centres, they were greeted by the teachers, with flowers and sweets, wishing them good luck.

At K.E. Board School examination centre at Malamaddi in Dharwad, Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu G.R.J. and Dharwad Zilla Panchayat CEO Bhuvanesh Patil welcomed students by offering them roses, pens, sweets, and wishing them success in the examination.

Speaking to mediapersons later, Ms. Prabhu said that for the past one year, various exam-related special programmes were conducted under Mission Vidyakashi and consequently, students were ready to face the examination with confidence. All efforts were made to create a festive atmosphere around the examination centres so as to boost the morale of the students, she said.

“All our senior officials and representatives of institutions have joined us to create a positive atmosphere at the examination centres so that students can write their exams without any fear or obstacles. Welcoming them with bouquets and sweets is intended to make them feel happy and relaxed,” she said. The fact that the students were freely interacting and taking photos showed their positive and relaxed mindset, she said.

Subsequently, along with Mr. Patil, the Deputy Commissioner visited the exam halls to inspect the arrangements.

Block Education Officer Ashok Sindagi, programme coordinator Vinayak Joshi, Secretary of KE Board Institution D.S. Rajpurohit, Special Development Officer Gururaj Jamakhandi, Principal N.S. Govinda Reddy and others were present. The Deputy Commissioner also visited examination centres in Hubballi later.

In Gadag

At the 61 SSLC examination centres in Gadag, a total 15,037 candidates out of the 15,333 registered candidates appeared for the first language paper on Friday. In all, 296 candidates remained absent.

In Haveri

Out of the 22,009 candidates who had registered for SSLC examination, 21,741 candidates appeared for the examination on the first day at 80 examination centres. A total of 268 candidates remained absent for the first language paper.
