
Sarma was earlier wholetime director & president, Energy.
The board also decided to extend his term to February 3, 2028 subject to shareholder’s approval in the upcoming AGM, according to a statement by the company.
“Sarma has been instrumental in transforming our hydrocarbon and energy businesses, driving innovation, operational excellence, and global competitiveness,” chairman & managing director SN Subrahmanyan said.
A graduate in chemical engineering, Sarma completed his master’s from IIT-Mumbai. He has over 40 years of experience, with 30 years being in the Middle East. He was appointed to the L&T board in August 2015.
Under Sarma’s leadership, L&T’s energy portfolio has emerged as one of the leading EPC contractors globally, by achieving record financial results and being ranked among the top three EPC contractors in the oil & gas sector (Middle East) for four consecutive years, the statement noted.
