
Kerala will collaborate with Cuba’s health sector in four major areas of research, including triple negative breast cancer vaccine, respiratory cancer vaccine, management of diabetic foot, dengue vaccine and treatment of neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s, a statement issued by the office of the Health Minister, Veena George, said.
The health sector collaboration with Cuba will benefit the State in a big way. The permission of the Centre, ICMR and the Drugs Control General of India would be sought in taking the health sector research collaboration with Cuba forward, Ms. George, who had met a Cuban delegation in New Delhi, said. The MoU is expected to be signed in April.
The vaccine development will be taken up at the Institute of Advanced Virology.
The 15-member Cuban delegation from the Ministry of Health were met by Ms. George, with a team of officials, including the Chief Secretary, Sarada Muraleedharan, Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, K.M. Abraham, Additional Chief Secretary (Health), Rajan Khobragade, Director of IAV, E. Sreekumar; Director of Malabar Cancer Centre, B. Satheesan, among others.
