A fire broke out at Sri Halasiddhanath Cooperative Sugar Factory in Nippani on Friday, leading to huge losses. However, no one was injured in the incident.

Police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel fought to douse the fire for over four hours. Fire tenders were summoned not only from Sankeshwar and Chikkodi, but also from Kagal and Hammidwada in Kolhapur district in Maharashtra.

The fire started in the boiler at around 4 p.m. Factory owners told the police the losses could be over ₹5 crore.

Fire fighting teams from Sadashiv Rao Mandalika Sugar Mill in Hamidwada, Chhatrapati Shahu Cooperative Sugar Factory in Kagal, Kagal Municipal Corporation, Municipalities in Nippani, Chikkodi and Sankeshwar, Hirasugar Sugar Factory, and DKSS Factory joined the effort to douse the fire.

District Fire and Emergency Services officer Shashidhar Neelgar thanked all the volunteers and employees.

Factory committee president Malagonda Patil, Vice-President Pawan Kumar Patil, Managing Director Appasaheb Shirgave were on the spot.
