Drug peddler hospitalised after swallowing MDMA

In an attempt to escape from police custody, one more suspected drug peddler hailing from Thamarassery swallowed methylamphetamine (MDMA) on Friday (March 21, 2025). The man, identified as A.K. Fayiz was admitted to Kozhikode Medical College hospital following the incident.

Police sources said the doctors secured his consent for the surgical removal of the swallowed drug on Saturday (March 25). Scanning report also confirmed that he consumed the risky stuff. However, hospital sources confirmed that he is fit to undergo the emergency surgery.

Fayiz was taken into custody after he made an alleged death threat against his wife and minor child. A few local residents informed the police about his violent behaviour. Subsequently, he swallowed the drug while trying to run away from the police custody, police said.

It was on March 8 that another Thamarassery native who swallowed MDMA in huge quantities in an attempt to escape from police custody died at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. The man, identified as Iyyadan Shanid, was a local drug peddler. Following the incident, the police had intensified action against drug trafficking in the rural areas of Kozhikode.
