
The Hennur Police arrested a person identified as Sonia, 25, and her husband Pradeep, 26, from HBR Layout recently for theft from the house Sonia worked as a caretaker.
During their interrogation, they allegedly confessed to stealing valuables from this house and also in multiple houses where she was employed as a caretaker earlier.
According to the police, A resident of an apartment in Hennur had employed a caretaker to take care of his ill grandmother. However, she recently did not turn up for work for a few days and did not answer any of their calls as well. A week later, when her phone was switched off, the owner of the house grew suspicious and checked for gold valuables and ₹2.5 lakh cash in the cupboard, only to find it missing.
He lodged a complaint of theft listing the caretaker as a suspect.
The accused said they had sold a part of the stolen jewellery at a gold shop in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh and the remaining was given to a friend for safekeeping. Police recovered 70 grams of gold jewellery from the jewellery shop in Nellore and 138 grams from the couple’s friend in Bengaluru. Police have recovered a total of 253 grams of gold ornaments worth ₹20.24 lakh.
