Public Mobile customers will want to check the provider’s app for possible deals, as some are getting offers for $35/75GB and $45/100GB plans.
Some people reported on Reddit that Public was offering special plans to existing customers. I was able to confirm the deals, which were available in my app too.
If you’re with Public Mobile, you can check by opening the app and tapping ‘Manage Subscription’ on the ‘Subscription’ tab. On the next screen, tap ‘Change Subscription’ and you should see a list of available plans you can swap to.
If you’re lucky, the $35/75GB and $45/100GB plans will be there. The $35 plan includes 75GB of 5G data, unlimited talk and text, and 1,000 international minutes to China, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Taiwan, and the U.K. It also includes built-in U.S. and Mexico roaming.
The $45 plan is the same, but with 100GB of 5G data. Notably, Public is owned by Telus and runs on Telus’ network, and it caps 5G speeds at up to 250Mbps.
Both of these plans are similar to offers on the Public Mobile website but with slightly more data. For example, Public is offering $35/60GB 5G Canada/U.S./Mexico and $45/80GB Canada/U.S./Mexico plans, so these offers for existing customers are actually a little better than what’s on offer for new customers.
Overall, these deals are pretty good, especially if you’re already on a $35 or $45 Public plan since you can get more data without paying more per month. I was on a $35/50GB Canada/U.S./Mexico plan that I picked up at the tail end of Black Friday last year, so switching to the 75GB option was a no-brainer for me (even though I likely won’t ever use that much data).
If you do decide to swap your plan, it’s worth noting that Public Mobile will ask when you want the change to take effect. You can have it start immediately or on your next renewal date. Going with the latter option will probably be best for most people since you’ll be able to use up the subscription you already paid for first.
Notably, Public currently has a $29/20GB 5G Canada/U.S./Mexico plan available, which just got extended to March 24th. However, that plan doesn’t seem to be available to existing customers. The special offers for existing customers also don’t appear to include entry to Public’s Mexico trip contest.
