Teacher on invigilation duty arrested for sexually harassing student

A government schoolteacher, tasked with invigilation duty for the Class 12 board exams, was arrested under the POCSO Act on charges of sexually harassing a girl student during an exam on Tuesday (March 18, 2025).

The accused Ramesh, 44, a teacher at the Government Higher Secondary School in Vepanahalli, was assigned exam invigilation duty at a government centre in the Bargur block. On Tuesday, he was accused by a candidate of touching her inappropriately as she was writing the exam.

The girl, a student of a private school, complained to her teacher, who in turn alerted the principal of the school hosting the exam. The teachers jointly lodged a complaint with the Bargur All Women Police Station. According to sources, another girl student writing her exam in the same classroom had also raised a similar complaint against the accused teacher.

The Bargur police took the teacher in for questioning and arrested him on Wednesday (March 19, 2025) under the POCSO Act.
