Telangana is set to become the global stage for beauty and culture as the State prepares to host the 72nd edition of the Miss World pageant between May 7 and 31. The event will see contestants from 140 countries competing for the prestigious title, marking a significant moment for the State – which aims to showcase its rich cultural heritage and global ambitions.

The total expenditure for the event is estimated at ₹54 crore, with the costs being equally shared between the Telangana Tourism Department and Miss World Limited. Telangana’s ₹27 crore contribution will primarily come from sponsorships, Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said.

At a press conference held at Tourism Plaza Hotel in Hyderabad on Thursday (March 20, 2025), Telangana Tourism officials, along with Julia Morley, chairman and CEO of Miss World Limited, and Miss World 2024 Krystyna Pyszková, shared details of the month-long gala.

Telangana’s Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao hailed the occasion as a milestone for the State, underscoring the importance of hosting an event of such scale. He highlighted Telangana’s blend of tradition and modernity, describing it as a land of warm hospitality, rich history, and scenic beauty. “This is not just an opportunity to present the beauty of our State but also to honor the values that Miss World represents. This year’s Miss World pageant is not just a celebration of external beauty, but of the strength, of spirit, the elegance of the mind, and the kindness of the heart,” he added.

Telangana’s cultural and economic vision

Tourism Secretary Smita Sabharwal elaborated on Telangana’s history, calling it the “Three Linga Desha” and tracing its evolution as a State that emerged after decades of struggle. Now entering its 11th year, Telangana has grown into one of India’s most vibrant States, boasting robust infrastructure, economic prosperity, and cultural richness. The event, she said, will highlight Telangana’s architectural marvels, from the UNESCO-listed Ramappa Temple to the grand Charminar and Golconda Fort. Handloom traditions such as Pochampally, Gadwal, and Narayanpet will also take center stage, showcasing the State’s artisanal legacy. Additionally, Telangana’s natural attractions, including the Amarabad and Kawal Tiger Reserves and the breathtaking waterfalls of Kuntala and Bogatha, will be part of the experience.

Miss world’s perspective

Miss World 2024 Krystyna Pyszková, expressing her excitement and describing India as a country that holds a special place in her heart, said, “The vibrant colours, the music, the traditions, it’s all unforgettable. India teaches us so much about unity in diversity, and that’s exactly what the Miss World pageant stands for.”

Ms. Pyszková highlighted the pageant’s mission of empowering women and promoting humanitarian causes. “We may come from different backgrounds, but we share the same vision, to uplift and inspire. This year’s event in Telangana will be a global festival of purpose-driven beauty,” she said.
