Disney+Hotstar provides better app experience for Android phones

Disney+Hotstar provides better app experience for Android users compared to its contemporaries, said data shared by Mozark research. Charting median buffer and download time taken by platforms, Mozark considered the performances of Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+Hotstar and JioCinema (prior to the merger) between October 2024 and March 2025.

For Android users, the data showed that Disney+Hotstar took 4.40 seconds for median app start time and 8.79 seconds for median download 100MB. The platform came third in terms of median play start time without ads at 3.50 seconds. The minimum time in this category was Netflix with 2.56 seconds. Disney+HotStar also recorded the fastest download speed in terms of overall operating systems (Android and iOS) at 8.83 seconds.

Worst performance

Interestingly, JioCinema, the other half of the merged entity JioHotStar, had the worst performance for Android in terms of app start time and download time at 7.35 seconds and 19.52 seconds respectively. Even in terms of overall operating systems JioCinema showed the worst performance. This can mean better speeds for JioHotStar users with a previous JioCinema subscription, while previous Disney+Hotstar users may experience slower speeds at the payoff of more content access.

Meanwhile, YouTube reported the best app start time and play start time for iOS users at 0.91 seconds and 0.06 seconds respectively. Netflix provided the best download speeds for iOS at 8.28 seconds. JioCinema was the runner up for app start time and download speed at 3.43 seconds and 13.71 seconds respectively. Overall, YouTube reported the best app start time at 4.06 seconds and Netflix reported the best play start time at 1.64 seconds.
