Discord will soon bring ads to its mobile app

Discord will roll out third-party ads to its mobile platform in June 2025.

First introduced to Discord on desktop and consoles last year, these ads allow users to watch a video to earn rewards like avatar decorations and in-game items. Discord has been testing these ads, officially called ‘Video Quests,’ for a while now, but June will mark the full release for everyone.

Thankfully, these Video Quests only appear at the bottom of the app in a relatively small window, so they’re not terribly intrusive. (For now, at least.) From there, users can choose to expand them or ignore them entirely. Discord also says that users can opt out of personalized promotions and “hide an in-app promotion for a specific Quest or game you’re not interested in.”

In a press release, Discord’s product leader, Peter Sellis, called Quests a “natural” addition to its platform, stating that it will give “brand partners access to Discord’s highly engaged, cross-platform mobile audience — and create new opportunities for businesses to connect with our community in meaningful, and performant, ways.”

A full FAQ on the Video Quests can be found on Discord’s website.
