Chatr, Lucky launch $29/25GB plans to compete with Public Mobile

Chatr Mobile and Lucky Mobile launched $29/mo 25GB plans, taking on offers from Public Mobile.

Rogers-owned Chatr is offering a $29/mo plan with 20GB of data, plus an extra 5GB for customers who sign up for automatic payments. The plan includes data at 4G speeds (up to 150Mbps) and unlimited Canada-wide talk and international text.

Chatr is also offering a one-month credit for new activations on plans $27 and up.

Bell’s Lucky Mobile plan is very similar. For $29/mo customers get 20GB of data and 5GB of bonus monthly data if they use automatic payments. The plan includes unlimited Canada-wide calling and international texting. Lucky caps 4G data speeds at up to 150Mbps.

Like Chatr, Lucky also offers a free month to new customers. However, Lucky’s offer differs slightly — it’s a credit that will automatically apply to customer’s third month of service.

Both of these plans are pretty decent deals overall, slightly outpacing Telus’ Public Mobile’s $29/20GB plan. However, there are a couple notable differences. For one, Public doesn’t offer 5GB of extra data for using autopay. Additionally, Public’s plan includes 5G data with speeds capped at 250Mbps along with included Canada/U.S./Mexico roaming.

In other words, if you’re looking for more data, Lucky or Chatr are probably the better option. But if you care more about data speed and can get by with a little less data, or if you travel a lot, then Public’s $29 plan is probably the way to go.
