Tesla removed from Vancouver Auto Show amid U.S. trade war

After asking Tesla if it wanted to voluntarily pull out of the Vancouver Auto Show over fears of protesters, the organizers of the show have decided to remove the Elon Musk-owned automaker.

“The Vancouver Auto Show’s primary concern is the safety of attendees, exhibitors, and staff. This decision will ensure all attendees can be solely focused on enjoying the many positive elements of the event,” show organizers said in a statement to CTV News.

It’s unclear what Tesla was presenting at the show, but it will no longer be exhibiting and has been removed from the auto show’s website.

As we’ve seen, sentiment toward Musk has deteriorated since the U.S. election, and there have even been protests at Tesla dealerships in Canada alongside ongoing protests in the U.S.

Most of these protests are related to Musk’s close relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump and the pressure the pair are putting on Canada’s economy. Since the trade war began, the Ontario government dissolved a $100 million Starlink deal, Toronto has gotten rid of Tesla buying incentives for businesses, and a petition has popped up asking the federal government to revoke Musk’s citizenship.

While there are still lots of people caught up in Musk’s cult of personality, the shifting perception of him outside of the U.S. has been especially damaging, so it will be interesting to see if the sales of Tesla’s reflect that over 2025.

Speaking of Tesla sales, Canada is still waiting on the outcome of the investigation into Tesla selling 8,000 EVs in one weekend.
