Suspended Chaitanya Godavari Grameen Bank PO held in bid to rob ATM in Kakinada City

KAKINADA

The Kakinada City police on Wednesday (March 19, 2025) arrested a former Probationary Officer of Chaitanya Godavari Grameen Bank (CGGB) and recovered two pistols and 17 bullets from him to foil his bid to rob an ATM. The police foiled the bid while he was preparing to fix his target on the ATMs either in Visakhapatnam or on the Andhra-Tamil Nadu State border. 

Probationary Officer Chitikela Nageswara Rao, 33, has been suspended by the CGGB after he was found guilty of stealing 900 grams of gold mortgaged by the bank customers when he was posted in the bank’s branch in West Godavari district.

“Mr. Nageswara Rao has reportedly stolen the gold from the bank for betting purposes while he was posted in West Godavari district. He has also reportedly withdrawn ₹2.3 lakh in cash from the ATM of the CGGB’s Yeleswaram branch by stealing the machine passcode”, said Kakinada SP G. Bindu Madhav in a press conference. 

Native of Narsiptnam in Anakapalli district, Mr. Nageswara Rao is living in the Maddilapalem area in Visakhapatnam City. The accused had earlier been involved in four house burglary cases.

“Mr. Nageswara Rao has recently procured two pistols and 17 bullets from Munger district Bihar to execute his plan to rob an ATM either in Visakhapatnam or on the Andhra-Tamil Nadu border, where he conducted recce”, said SP Mr. Bindu Madhav. On being alerted by the local sources, the Kakinada City police nabbed the accused on Wednesday (March 19, 2025).

The police registered a case and the investigation is on.
