Land acquisition for Wayanad rehabilitation: Kerala Cabinet approves ₹26.5 crore for compensation


The Kerala Cabinet meeting held here on Wednesday (March 19) decided to provide compensation for the land to be acquired for the rehabilitation of the victims of the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslides in Wayanad district.

For constructing the township, a total of 64.4075 hectares belonging to Elston Estate – resurvey numbers 88/158, 88/159, 88/62, 88/66, and 88/137 – in Block 19, Kalpetta village, Vythiri taluk, will be acquired. An amount of ₹26.56 crore mentioned in the detailed cost information report will be allocated for the land acquisition from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.

In addition, seven children who lost their parents in the landslide in Meppadi grama panchayat and 14 children who lost only one parent will be provided with ₹10 lakh each for their educational needs. The financial assistance will be issued from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund, with the condition that the amount cannot be withdrawn until the age of 18. This is in addition to the financial assistance granted by the Women and Child Development department.
