‘SpiceExtra’ to scale up pan-India, launches Guntur chapter


India’s only digital platform — SpiceExtra.in — for the commodity dry chilli is scaling up its pan-India presence by launching dedicated chapters in key regions such as Guntur, Khammam, Warangal and Madhya Pradesh.

“We are excited to announce that the we started Guntur SpiceExtra.in Chapter. Our goal with these chapters is to establish a pan-India data network in 3-5 years, ensuring high accuracy and comprehensive coverage,” said Basavaraj Hampali, Director of Innovation, Hampali Traders.  

Until now, the platform was focused on Karnataka. Hampali Traders is a 54-year-old dry chilli trading firm based in Hubballi, Karnataka. A major objective of the digital platform is to help research and development (R&D) in dry chilli, besides helping the user industry.

Launched in 2017, SpiceExtra focuses on digitising price and arrivals, crop surveys, assaying and branding. Hampali said since there was no data on dry chillies until then. 

Starting from scratch

“This led us to work towards digitising this area from scratch. The platform partnered and associated with renowned agronomists, software engineers, weather experts, government agencies, media houses, and others for incubating the “SpiceExtra” platform,” he said. 

The platform utilised “Hukum”, Hampali’s digital product in digitising the works of the industry. “Hukum is our dry chillies business Intelli Software which can interact with multiple data sources like yield, crop, weather, reservoirs level etc.,” Hampali said.

It is one of the authentic data providers for Karnataka Dry Chillies, its data is used by Spices and Olersien companies, Seed and Fertilizer companies. Companies in the spices trade use the data for making purchase decisions and seed companies for next season’s production and pricing strategy.
