E!: Are there any hair hacks or beauty tips that you always stick with?
HS: A couple of things come to mind. I never leave the house without SPF. I never go to bed without a clean face—no makeup, nothing.
When it comes to my hair, I’ve become really aware of product buildup. So I make sure when I’m washing my hair that I’m really getting in there and cleansing properly to ensure there isn’t a lot of buildup because that can lead to a whole other set of issues.
E!: Would you say it’s more about paying attention to your hair’s needs instead of following a schedule or set of rules?
HS: I’ve been saying that for a while now—just meeting myself where I’m at, understanding what my body needs in that moment, and doing whatever it is I know I need to get done.
E!: How does taking care of your hair fit in with your overall approach to self-care?
HS: I really do believe it all goes hand in hand, and it all comes back to feeling good from within, and knowing that when you feel good, you look great.
I get my hair done a lot, especially when I’m on set. I’m in makeup and hair every day, there’s heat on it, product in it—things that are stripping my hair of all the good stuff. So, being conscious of what I’m using and just taking care of it is important.
For me, not doing a whole lot when I don’t have to has been a game changer—letting my hair and skin rest when I can.
